I am on a train traveling from Ranchi to my hometown Bokaro. The train is 55 minutes late. Usually, I watch videos while traveling that I keep downloaded beforehand, but this time, I am going to share my story about maths, God, and the world.

And yes, why am I learning maths?

I hated maths as a kid. Actually, it was the only subject where I barely passed until my 10th. After 10th, I opted out of maths and decided to choose commerce. The number one reason was my girlfriend—she was in commerce—and the other reason was that I just wanted to get rid of maths. Those two years (11th and 12th) went pretty well, but maths had not really left me.

After my 12th, the corona lockdown happened, and I thought, why go for the usual Indian competitive exams? Let me learn some skills and get a job. And oh boy, the journey started from there.

I first learned Tally. It was pretty basic, and I learned it all in 15 days. Then I thought, What should I learn next?

I started learning digital marketing, especially SEO. I worked with someone, though he didn’t pay me. Honestly, it was easy, and I wasn’t getting that kick. So, I thought, let’s learn something new and challenging—something hard.

I was picking up skills and learning them easily. That gave me confidence that I could learn anything. And that’s when I searched for “top high-paying skills for the future and present.” The data science domain caught my eye. It was high-paying, something I could learn at home, and who wouldn’t want that “scientist” title in their name? So I started doing research.

I found out I had to learn Python, and unofficially, my coding journey started. I learned Python, but as I dived deeper into the roadmap for data science (I was naive and hadn’t researched the whole roadmap beforehand), I found out I had to learn maths.

And man, that’s where I hit a wall. Why maths? I don’t like maths. Isn’t there any other option? But it seemed there wasn’t. I had to learn maths for data science. So, with a heavy heart, I dropped the idea of data science.

But coding seduced me, and I realized it was also a high-paying job. I’ve loved tech and computers since I was a kid, so I started learning app development. I loved using apps on my phone, and I found out app development was high-paying and had plenty of job opportunities (unlike game development, which I also loved but there were fewer jobs available for beginners in this domain).

I started learning app development, but my laptop wasn’t happy with it. It couldn’t handle it. The fan would start screaming, and it threw heat like a dragon. I realized I couldn’t sacrifice my laptop, so I switched to web development—it was something my mid-range laptop could handle.

I started learning web development, built some websites, and eventually got a job in Ranchi. Things were going pretty well. I was freelancing, even thought of starting an agency (which I did, but later closed due to costs). I began thinking of switching jobs.

Things weren’t bad, but they weren’t great either.

In 2023, something changed inside me. I started questioning everything:

• What is God?

• Is He real?

• Who made the universe?

• How was it built?

I read the Bhagavad Gita and got summaries of two Vedas, which are deeply philosophical. I got some answers, but I wanted more perspectives. So, I started reading the Quran and got some views from the Bible too. I even explored Chinese and Western philosophies.

After studying all of these, I came to the conclusion that Hindu philosophy is what satisfied me the most. This doesn’t mean I’m biased—I’m Hindu, but my love for philosophy is unbiased. And I am saying this after reading a little of every religion. I genuinely respect all religions and philosophies for the wisdom they offer.

Still, I wanted to know more from a scientific perspective. So, I made a roadmap for how to explore these questions scientifically. If you’re interested, here is the roadmap:

It’s a 10-year journey, and while it won’t answer everything, it will help you understand the universe more clearly.

Anyway, back to maths.

A few months ago, I started learning machine learning and AI because of their future potential. I also discovered that ML is closely related to how humans and the universe were made. And maths came back into my life—this time fully prepared for war. Machine learning is sophisticated maths, completely built on it.

And this time, I’m learning it from scratch.

I’ve realized that maths answers many of the universe’s questions. Everything is connected to maths.

I’m not here to convince you to learn maths, I am leaving this task to these videos:

For me, the motivation to learn maths is God Himself, and my great teacher is the internet.

School taught me to hate maths.

My questions about the universe and God taught me to love it.

I am still finding the answers. Maybe one day, I’ll find them.

Enough philosophy now—give me a cigarette.
